Agentic checkouts: AI agents can now pay on any Polar checkout

Agents should be able to buy anything online. As of today, that includes everything sold through Polar.

Polar is the billing platform software companies and creators use to sell their products. Since 27 October, every Polar checkout accepts payments from AI agents through Agentcard. Polar is the first payment platform to support Agentcard natively.

What changes

Before, an agent buying on Polar had to use the checkout page the way a person does. Now it doesn't need the page. It pays the checkout directly, and you approve the payment first.

"Can my agent sign up for me?"

On 27 October, Emil Kowalski launched his AI for UI course, sold through a Polar checkout. Under the announcement, shadcn asked: "is this human only? can my agent sign up and take the course for me?"

Your agent can now: it finds the checkout, you approve the payment, and it pays.

Who approves the purchases?

You do. Nothing is paid until you approve it.

The agent never gets your card. The agent gets a one-time permission for that purchase: it only works for that amount, in that currency, and it expires. Your card is never typed into the seller's page.

For sellers on Polar

There's nothing to build. Polar turned agentic checkouts on for every seller on 26 October, so if you sell on Polar, you can already take payments from agents.

You approve. The agent does the rest.
